AGC orders inquest into deaths of three men in Durian Tunggal police shooting
The Attorney General’s Chambers directed that an inquest is to be held into the deaths of three men shot during a police operation in Durian Tunggal, Melaka in November 2025 - July 20, 2026

THE Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) has ordered an inquest into the deaths of three men who were fatally shot during a police operation in Durian Tunggal, Melaka, on Nov 24, 2025.

In a statement issued today, the AGC said the inquest would be conducted under Section 339(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code after reviewing the full police investigation and all available evidence.

The proceedings are intended to determine the cause and circumstances of the deaths, as well as establish the facts surrounding the incident.

"This includes determining whether there were any criminal elements in relation to the deaths of the three individuals arising from the shooting incident in Durian Tunggal, Melaka, on Nov 24, 2025," the statement said.

The AGC said it treats every case involving the loss of life with the utmost seriousness, adding that the decision to hold an inquest reflects its commitment to ensuring that all relevant facts and circumstances are examined thoroughly, transparently and independently.

"The department remains committed to ensuring that every legal action and process is carried out fairly, professionally and in accordance with the rule of law," it said.

The AGC's decision follows the resubmission of the investigation papers by the Royal Malaysia Police after completing additional investigative requirements.

On May 26, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M. Kumar said the police had returned the completed investigation papers to the AGC after complying with several further instructions.

The case stems from an incident at an oil palm plantation in Durian Tunggal, where three men, aged between 24 and 29, were shot dead after one of them allegedly attacked a police officer with a machete.

The attack, which occurred at about 4.30am on Nov 24, 2025, left a police corporal in his early 30s with serious injuries to his left arm. - July 20, 2026
