PASIR SALAK – An assessment on the damage to crops and losses due to the floods, which has hit several states in the country, can only be done within 45 days after the flood water recedes, said Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee.

He said the ministry is monitoring the matter and has been receiving reports from the affected areas, including the padi farming areas under the Integrated Agricultural Development Area.

For the agricultural industry, he said, the ministry allocates about RM80 million a year as aid for those whose crops are damaged by natural disasters.

“The ministry understands the anxiety and hardship faced by farmers and breeders due to the current floods. After the flood has receded, we can make the assessment on the damage,” he told reporters at a programme with padi farmers at the Seberang Perak IADA, Chenderong Balai here, today. – Bernama, January 5, 2021
