THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has confirmed that it has received a complaint regarding the upload of extremist 3R-related content allegedly insulting Islam on Facebook.
The commission said it is conducting a comprehensive investigation and will not compromise on any misuse of communication platforms that violates Malaysian law.
In addition to its investigation, MCMC said it is working closely with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and stands ready to provide technical assistance and digital forensic expertise to support the ongoing investigation where required.
The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), which carries a maximum penalty of a RM500,000 fine, imprisonment of up to two years, or both, upon conviction.
MCMC said it viewed the dissemination of extremist content involving religion with utmost seriousness, warning that such material has the potential to incite hatred, undermine social cohesion and threaten racial and religious harmony in Malaysia.
The commission also urged the public to use social media platforms responsibly and ethically, and advised users not to upload, share or disseminate extremist, insulting or inflammatory content, particularly material involving religious issues. - July 25, 2026
