PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has conveyed his condolences to the families of six men killed in a road accident along the Kuala Lumpur-Kuantan route in Karak, Bentong, early yesterday.
In a post on X today, Anwar said he and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, were saddened by the tragedy and extended their sympathies to the victims’ families.
“Condolences to all family members of the victims. May they be granted strength and resilience, while those injured are given a speedy recovery.
“This tragedy serves as a reminder to all of us that road safety must never be taken lightly,” he said.
The crash, which occurred at about 4am, claimed the lives of six men after the car they were travelling in collided head-on with a lorry along Jalan Karak Lama, near Klinik Desa Jambu Rias, Bentong.
Those killed were identified as the car driver V. Mugilan, 25, and his friends K. Dineshvaran, 22; K. Alaganathan, 21; A. Kanabati Raja, 19; S. Kiisven, 17; and M. Paranthaman, 16.
The lorry driver, aged 31, was reported to have suffered serious injuries.
Initial police investigations found that the car, travelling from Kuantan towards Kuala Lumpur, is believed to have lost control while going downhill before veering into the opposite lane and colliding with the oncoming lorry.
The crash has once again highlighted concerns over road safety, particularly along accident-prone routes where motorists face greater risks due to road conditions and vehicle control challenges. – July 26, 2026
