NEGERI Sembilan voters head to the polls today in an election that will determine not only the 36 members of the State Legislative Assembly but also the administration that will govern the state over the next five years.
Ahead of polling day, leaders of the major political parties contesting the election issued their final appeals to the state's 889,490 registered voters, urging them to exercise their democratic right and make an informed choice at the ballot box.
While united in encouraging voter turnout, the rival coalitions presented contrasting visions for Negeri Sembilan's future, emphasising themes ranging from political stability and effective governance to multicultural representation, the position of the Malay community, integrity in public office and economic development.
Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim called on voters from all communities to participate in the democratic process and expressed confidence that the coalition would secure the mandate to govern.
“To the people and voters of Negeri Sembilan, especially the Muslim majority and our friends from the Chinese, Indian and Orang Asli communities, let us fulfil our responsibility as voters. The cooperation from all parties has been excellent, and we are confident Pakatan Harapan will be given the mandate and go on to achieve victory.”
Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the coalition was confident it could offer Negeri Sembilan voters a different approach to governing the state.
“We are confident in what we are doing, and we believe we can offer the voters and people of Negeri Sembilan something different from what they have at present.”
Perikatan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar urged voters to support candidates with integrity, competence and a commitment to serving the people.
“Negeri Sembilan needs an administration that is stable, efficient, honest and fair to all its people. Judge the candidates based on their integrity, capability, ability to build consensus and commitment to public service.”
Negeri Sembilan Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said the coalition had demonstrated its commitment to representing all communities while seeking broader support in Malay-majority constituencies.
“We are confident in representing the voices of all Malaysians regardless of race, including Malays, Chinese and Indians. We have already proven this after being entrusted with victory in Malay-majority constituencies. Malays should not be afraid to give us the opportunity to win more seats in Malay-majority areas.”
Negeri Sembilan Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan called for continued support for Malay political leadership.
“The majority of the people in this state are Malays. It has long been the accepted norm that Malay leadership forms the foundation of our nation. I hope we will return to that principle of Malay leadership. Malays have always been accustomed to leading. Malays are a magnanimous people.”
Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin appealed to party supporters to remain steadfast and vote with future generations in mind.
“I hope Bersatu supporters will remain steadfast in their convictions and continue to lend their support wherever it is needed because we are thinking about the future of our children and grandchildren, as well as their livelihoods, the economy and education. That is our principle. I hope more voters will support us so that we can achieve success.”
Negeri Sembilan Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias described the election as an opportunity to shape the state's political future and urged voters to support BN's new direction.
“I appeal for the support of the people and the extended family of Negeri Sembilan to come together and fulfil your responsibility. This mandate is crucial in shaping the political history of Negeri Sembilan and will allow us to embark on a new approach and direction for the benefit of the people.” - August 1, 2026
