HAZE conditions in Sarawak have deteriorated further, with the number of areas recording unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings rising to 11 as of 6am today.
Data displayed on the Department of Environment’s (DOE) Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) website showed that the Serian air quality monitoring station recorded the sharpest deterioration, with its API reading climbing to 189 — just 12 points short of the ‘very unhealthy’ category.
Ten other monitoring stations also recorded unhealthy readings.
They were Samarahan at 171, Kuching (166), Bintulu (159), Samalaju (156), Mukah (155), Sibu (154), Sarikei (153), Sri Aman (152), Miri (135) and the Miri Industrial Training Institute (111).
Two other stations remained in the moderate category but were edging closer to unhealthy levels, with Limbang recording 81 and Kapit 73.
The latest readings indicate that air quality has continued to deteriorate in several parts of Sarawak, particularly in key population centres where haze conditions have intensified.
Under the API classification, readings between 101 and 200 are categorised as unhealthy, while readings from 201 to 300 are considered very unhealthy.
Such conditions may affect health, particularly among vulnerable groups including children, the elderly and people with respiratory problems or chronic illnesses.
The public is therefore advised to monitor the latest air quality readings closely and reduce outdoor activities should haze conditions worsen. - August 11, 2026
