THE Selangor government has yet to determine how it will finance the redevelopment of the Shah Alam Stadium complex, with its investment arm still studying possible funding sources for the RM3 billion-plus project.
The status of the land swap arrangement for the Kompleks Sukan Shah Alam (KSSA) redevelopment also remains unclear, more than three years after the project was approved and the old stadium was demolished.
Selangor Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali (PN-Hulu Klang) questioned the lack of updates on the project, saying the state government had yet to provide details on its progress, financing and expected completion timeline.
Speaking during the debate at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly today, Azmin said KSSA was only briefly mentioned in the Second Selangor Plan (RSK2) as a future sports landmark, without further details.
“RSK2 only mentions KSSA as a sports landmark in Selangor. That is the only official statement from the state government — one sentence.
“We have never questioned the development of KSSA as a sports landmark. But where is the progress report? There is no economic impact report and no commitment to speed up the project,” he said.
Azmin said he had submitted a written question to the state government after failing to find more information on the project in the RSK2 document.
He claimed the response he received stated that as of Aug 10, Menteri Besar Selangor (Pemerbadanan) (MBI) was still reviewing the possible sources of financing for the redevelopment.
“The funding source itself has not been identified. So what is the plan, and when will this project be completed?” he asked.
During the RSK2 presentation last Friday, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said KSSA was envisioned as a major sports landmark for the state.
He also highlighted other planned sports developments, including motorsports facilities in Sepang and the Litar Rakyat project in Kuala Selangor.
Azmin also raised concerns over the future of the project should there be a change in the state administration after the 16th General Election.
“If this continues to be delayed and a new government comes in, we will have to bear the consequences.
“The government today should not leave behind a problem caused by its failure to identify the land arrangement and funding sources.”
