FORMER Serdang and Bangi Member of Parliament, Ong Kian Ming, announced his resignation from the DAP effective today.

In his resignation letter to DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke and national organising secretary Khoo Poay Tiong, Ong expressed gratitude for the opportunities he received since joining in 2012.

Ong served as a Member of Parliament for Serdang (2013 to 2018) and Member of Parliament for Bangi (2018 to 2022), as a Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI) (2018 to 2020), as an appointed member of the Central Executive Committee (2019 to 2022) and as an elected member of the DAP Selangor state committee (2018 to 2024).

"I especially want to thank Tony Pua for inviting me to join the party and for providing me with the guidance on how to best serve the party and the country over the past 14 years as a DAP member.

"I am also grateful to Lim Guan Eng for providing me with the opportunity to be nominated as a candidate for the parliamentary seats of Serdang and Bangi and as a Deputy Minister during his time as Secretary General of the DAP," he said in a statement today.

He said he does not plan to join any other political party in the near future nor seek to contest in the coming general election.

“I remain committed to fulfilling the promise I made on January 10, 2026, to help Khairy Jamaluddin campaign in the 16th GE, if he is given a seat to contest.

“I will continue to serve the nation in other ways, including on my podcast (“Are We OK”), through my various advisory positions and by working with other like-minded people with similar interests,” he said.

“Happy Merdeka Day!” he concluded. – August 31, 2026
