KUALA LUMPUR – Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan have denied claims that the party is working with DAP to topple Perikatan Nasional.
Najib, in a Facebook post, rubbished the allegation made by Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
“Why would Umno want to work with DAP, when our grassroots clearly oppose it?
“If you’re not satisfied with your firing or the decision by Umno division chiefs to reject Bersatu, don’t make statements that would make the situation worse.”
Earlier today, Annuar said certain quarters in Umno are working with DAP and opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to form a new government.
This comes a day after Annuar was replaced as Barisan Nasional and Muafakat Nasional secretary-general by Ahmad, who is Umno secretary-general.
Ahmad, too, has taken to social media, tweeting that statements concerning Umno’s cooperation with DAP are false.

The move to replace Annuar came after a majority of Umno division chiefs rejected cooperation with Bersatu in the next general election.
However, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said calling for elections now would be disastrous for Malaysia.
“Those calling for a general election before the pandemic is brought under control are irresponsible. I know that among those calling for elections are from my own party. Don’t be selfish,” he tweeted today.
Machang MP Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub, meanwhile, resigned as Malaysian Palm Oil Board chairman on Monday.
He had said he would quit the post if the PN government did not dissolve Parliament by the end of this month. – The Vibes, January 6, 2021
