AN e-hailing driver’s suspicions helped save a 71-year-old woman from losing another RM10,000 to a suspected love scam after he alerted police while she was at a bank here yesterday.
Rembau district police chief Superintendent Ngiam Ooi Ming said the driver contacted the Rembau police station after dropping the woman at a Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) branch at about 5.30 pm.
He said the driver suspected she was making a transaction linked to a scam and decided to alert police.
The Rembau police station deputy chief, accompanied by several personnel, then rushed to the bank.
“When police arrived, the woman was attempting to deposit RM10,000 into the account.
“The transaction was stopped, and the money was returned to her BSN account,” Ngiam said.
However, initial checks found that the woman had apparently already lost money to the same scam.
She had previously made two transactions of RM4,950 and RM4,900 to accounts believed to belong to the syndicate.
The latest intervention prevented her from losing a further RM10,000. – September 3, 2026
