KUALA LUMPUR – DAP national organising secretary Anthony Loke has rubbished a claim by Tan Sri Annuar Musa that Umno had negotiated with the opposition party to form a new political pact.
“No negotiation was ever held between Umno and DAP,” Loke told The Vibes.
Annuar earlier told the press that there is “black and white” support for opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim among those in Umno to bring down Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s government, as well as ongoing attempts and negotiations involving DAP to form a new political alignment.
He said these are among seven reasons that compelled him to defend his political stand and principles.
The Ketereh MP went on to present documents, including a letter to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, among others, and said Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and several Supreme Council members have continuously attempted to topple the Perikatan Nasional government.
A fresh political bout was triggered by Anwar last September when he claimed to have obtained a “strong, formidable and convincing” majority to form the government.
Zahid then issued a statement that many Umno MPs backed Anwar, and the party would not prevent any of its lawmakers from supporting the PKR president’s plan to take over Putrajaya.
The Barisan Nasional lynchpin also issued a “No Anwar, No DAP” policy, and pledged en bloc support for Muhyiddin and PN after a support letter for Anwar purportedly signed by Zahid and former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak surfaced on social media and in news reports.
Umno, however, has continued to pile on the pressure, citing dissatisfaction over having to play second fiddle to Muhyiddin’s Bersatu. – The Vibes, January 6, 2021
