A 21-YEAR-OLD Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) student died after suffering a heat-related complication during the Komander Kesatria Endurance Challenge (KKEC) at UiTM Jengka, while eight other participants were hospitalised.
The victim, Fadhlan Fakhry Solana Mohd Fellimal, died at Hospital Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah (HoSHAS) in Temerloh at about noon yesterday.
Maran district police chief Superintendent Wong Kim Wai said preliminary examinations found that the affected participants had suffered heat-related complications, including oxygen deficiency, while taking part in the endurance event.
“Further developments will be provided after receiving the post-mortem report on Fadhlan Fakhry,” he said.
Fadhlan Fakhry, who represented UiTM Negeri Sembilan in the competition, was a final-year diploma student at the university’s Seremban campus.
Meanwhile, UiTM Pahang expressed its condolences to the victim’s family and said it was providing the necessary assistance.
“The university is mobilising comprehensive assistance to ensure all matters relating to the funeral, documentation, transportation and emotional support for the family are handled as smoothly as possible and without difficulty,” it said in a statement.
UiTM said KKEC was an annual programme involving Komander Kesatria participants from UiTM campuses nationwide and was scheduled to run from Sept 2 to 8 at the UiTM Pahang branch campus in Jengka.
“The programme is conducted in compliance with strict health and safety standard operating procedures (SOPs).
“All participants are required to undergo health screening before the programme begins, in addition to regular health checks before each event.
“Several participants had previously been asked to withdraw after failing the final screening,” it said.
UiTM said it was taking the incident seriously and would continue monitoring the situation to safeguard the welfare of everyone involved.
As a follow-up measure and as part of its commitment to student safety and health, the organisers decided to cancel all outdoor KKEC activities scheduled for today.
KKEC is an annual physical and mental endurance competition designed to test students’ physical strength, tactical skills, agility and teamwork. - September 6, 2026
