A PRE-CRASH video showing an FDS helicopter’s door appearing difficult to close has surfaced on social media, prompting questions about the aircraft’s condition after the crash in Long Lellang, Ulu Baram, Sarawak, which killed all five people on board.
Shared by TikTok user @henny19645, the footage shows Layang-Layang Aerospace pilots Captain Zainal Afiq Bee Sham and Alexson Adit Henry attempting to close the helicopter’s door, while Dr Ainul Baraah Kamarudin and two nurses, Deborah anak Moset and Jessie Paya Jo, are also seen inside the aircraft.
The footage has prompted social media users to question the helicopter’s safety and maintenance.
One user, @user1047, questioned why the helicopter had continued to be operated despite what appeared to be a problem with its door.
“Look for yourself, even the helicopter door cannot be closed. Who recommended renting a helicopter that is already this old?”
Another user, @AtiliaZeta, described the pilot as highly skilled and experienced, while claiming the helicopter had been well maintained.
“Captain was very skilled, he was also good at fixing things. It was maintained like his own asset,” the user said, while extending condolences to the victims’ families and friends.
The footage shows the door appearing difficult to close at the time it was recorded, but does not by itself establish that the helicopter had a mechanical defect, was unsafe to operate or had been improperly maintained.
It also does not establish any link between the apparent door issue and the subsequent crash. Determining whether the aircraft had any mechanical or maintenance problems, and whether these contributed to the accident, would require findings from the official investigation.
