POLICE should investigate any allegations of duress or undue influence in the ongoing political and royal-institutional dispute in Negeri Sembilan, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said today.
She said such allegations should not be preceded by comments or conclusions from other parties while an investigation could be under way.
“I think number one, when there are allegations of duress or undue influence, that is for the police to investigate.
“We should not make comments. The police may have already opened a file, so let the police investigate what duress means and what undue influence means,” she said when asked about developments in the Negeri Sembilan issue, including allegations of coercion in the matter under dispute.
Azalina said the resolution should instead be left to UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership in the state.
She said UMNO had its Negeri Sembilan liaison body, alongside the state BN leadership, and was confident both could find a solution.
“For me, UMNO has the Negeri Sembilan Liaison Body in Negeri Sembilan, as well as Barisan Nasional Negeri Sembilan.
“I am very confident that both these entities are capable of finding a solution to this problem,” she said.
Azalina said UMNO, as a political party, also understood the respective roles and relationship between the Menteri Besar and the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
She said all parties should therefore give the state UMNO leadership, the Negeri Sembilan Liaison Body and the state government time and space to find the best solution.
“I believe we need to give them time and space for the Negeri Sembilan Liaison Body, UMNO Negeri Sembilan and also the Exco, the state government, to come up with their solution to this matter.
“We need to give them space and time, and we need to respect what they are looking into in this matter,” she said.
Azalina also stressed that the Federal Government and UMNO’s central leadership should not intervene in the dispute, as it was a matter at the state level. - September 14, 2026
