MALAYSIA has expressed its condolences to Spain following a high-speed train collision that killed at least 68 people, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim conveying the country’s solidarity with those affected by the tragedy.

Anwar said Malaysia shared the grief of the Spanish people following the loss of life and extended its sympathies to families who had lost loved ones.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life in the train collision in Spain.

“Our thoughts and sympathies are with all those who have lost loved ones, and we pray for the speedy recovery of those injured,” he said in a Facebook post today.

He also paid tribute to emergency responders and others working tirelessly at the crash site.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Malaysia, I extend my deepest condolences to Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, the Government and people of Spain, especially the families of those who lost their lives,” he said.

International media reported that the death toll from the collision involving two high-speed trains in central Spain had risen to at least 68.

Speaking at the crash site in Urda, Toledo, Sánchez said authorities would establish the cause of the accident and take action if any wrongdoing was found.

He also announced three days of national mourning, beginning today and lasting until Sunday. - October 29, 2026
