KUALA LUMPUR – The Plantation Industries and Commodities Ministry (MPIC) has given a contribution of RM300,000 to flood victims at the relief centre in Kampung Ulu Sungai, Raub, Pahang to repair their homes and other related damages.

Its minister, Datuk Dr Khairuddin Aman Razali announced the contribution after visiting the flood victims at the relief centre together with a delegation from the ministry yesterday.

“A total of 97 people from 27 families were evacuated after their houses were inundated when the river overflowed following heavy downpour in several areas in the country.

“Among those destroyed were caged fish farms, resulting in the farmers losing their source of income. Most of the residents in the area are also involved in the commodity sector such as rubber tapping and working on oil palm estates as their main economic activities,” the ministry said in a statement.

As such, the ministry urged the affected victims to continue to comply with the orders given by the relevant authorities from time to time to ensure their own and family’s safety.

The ministry also expressed its gratitude to all enforcement personnel from the relevant agencies in evacuating and managing flood victims nationwide, and hoped the evacuees would remain calm during the disaster. – Bernama, January 6, 2021
