MCA Vice-President and Selangor State Liaison Committee Chairman, Datuk Lawrence Low, has urged the government to promptly announce a one-off, simplified application process for the RM2,000 monthly rental assistance promised to the Putra Heights gas explosion victims.

This, he said should include the full list of recipients, and a clear disbursement timeline.

“Having lost their homes, victims now face immense financial pressure. Clear and timely guidance from the authorities is crucial — endless waiting only deepens their hardship,” he said.

Low stressed that aid can only be effective if its processes are transparent and efficient.

“Media reports revealed that no clear application channels or beneficiary mechanisms have been provided, severely affecting the victims’ ability to resettle.

“Victims are also facing issues with practical temporary housing arrangements.

“Some have reported that accommodations in Sepang are too far from their workplaces and schools, and lack basic furnishings, making them unsuitable,” he said.

Low emphasised that immediate aid is only the first step, while the greater challenge lies in economic recovery.

He urged the government to provide more flexible temporary housing options closer to affected areas, rental subsidies, and waived deposits.

Additionally, he called for more targeted support measures, including special tax relief, emergency interest-free loans, and extensions of loan repayment moratoriums.

“Recovery isn’t just about rebuilding homes — it's about rebuilding lives. Victims need systematic, long-term support,” he said.

He also pressed the police and state government to release the preliminary investigation report without delay to clarify responsibility and restore public trust.

“Transparency is key. Without it, public suspicion will only grow,” he warned, adding that swift action is vital to prevent rumours and further public unease.

“Recovery will be a long and difficult journey. I urge for communities to continue supporting the victims with timely, meaningful assistance.” – April 21, 2025
