A TOTAL of 652 civil servants received RM1.18 million in government rewards between 2012 and 2025 for reporting or rejecting bribery, with police officers accounting for 437 of the recipients.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said four main agencies recorded the highest numbers of recipients during the period, led by the police, followed by the Immigration Department with 64, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) with 33 and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) with 21.
“Among the high-profile cases was the rejection of a RM200,000 bribe offer by a police officer in Perlis following the seizure of 1.8 tonnes of syabu, besides a case involving the rejection of a RM45,000 bribe in Johor,” he said in a statement today.
The recognition programme followed a decision by the Special Cabinet Committee on Government Management Integrity (JKKMKPK) on Aug 19, 2010, and guidelines issued by the Chief Secretary to the Government on May 11, 2011.
Abd Halim said 54 civil servants from four enforcement agencies had been nominated for assessment under the 2026 evaluation exercise.
They comprised 38 police officers, 12 from the Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP), three from Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and one from the Immigration Department.
“This year’s assessment involved 30 investigation papers, with the value of bribes allegedly offered reaching RM304,621. All candidates assessed passed the MACC integrity screening and police criminal-record checks to ensure they met the stipulated eligibility requirements,” he said.
He said 529 individuals were recommended to receive rewards and certificates, while 123 were recommended to receive certificates of appreciation.
Abd Halim said the recognition was intended not only to acknowledge the integrity of civil servants but also to encourage others to come forward and report attempts to offer or receive bribes.
Under the programme’s criteria, nominated civil servants must have lodged an official complaint concerning the offering or receipt of a bribe and provided full cooperation to MACC investigators until the conclusion of the case in court.
“The initiative to provide rewards has been expanded beyond enforcement agencies to the entire public service, particularly officers in procurement divisions, so that they will come forward courageously with information to curb corruption.
“The courage of civil servants to come forward and report attempts to offer bribes is crucial in helping efforts to curb corruption and strengthen a culture of integrity in the public service,” he said. - September 23, 2026
