DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has stood by his decision to resign as Transport Minister and will submit his resignation letter to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim after returning from China.
The Seremban MP said the decision had already been made when asked whether he would proceed with his plan to leave the Cabinet.
“The decision has been made. I will submit my resignation letter to the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) upon my return home,” he told reporters briefly upon arriving in Hangzhou, China on Wednesday.
Loke is accompanying Anwar on a three-day working visit to Shanghai and Hangzhou at the invitation of the Chinese government.
Loke had earlier announced his intention to resign as Transport Minister following the issue surrounding the conditional pardon granted to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
He said other DAP ministers and deputy ministers would remain in the Unity Government.
Loke announced his intention to resign from the Cabinet following a meeting of the DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) on Sept 19.
Anwar, speaking to Malaysian media while travelling by high-speed train from Shanghai to Hangzhou, had urged Loke to reconsider his decision and said no one should pressure DAP to leave the Unity Government.
The Prime Minister also said he would not rush or act hastily in deciding how to respond to Loke’s proposed resignation. - September 24, 2026
