FORMER Tabung Haji (TH) chief operating officer Datuk Adi Azuan Abdul Ghani was charged today with allegedly receiving RM8,882.77 in house renovation costs, bringing the number of similar charges against him to four.
Adi Azuan, 56, pleaded not guilty before Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court Judge Suzana Hussin to allegedly receiving the benefit from a company director nine years ago.
He was charged under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which prohibits public servants from accepting valuable things without adequate consideration, over renovation works worth RM8,882.77 for a house in Jalan Tanjung SD 13/4, Bandar Sri Damansara, on March 7, 2017.
The renovation was allegedly provided by Thamsulazri Ismail, director of AG Reka Sdn Bhd, whom Adi Azuan allegedly knew had dealings with him in relation to the house.
If convicted, he faces up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy public prosecutor Irna Julieza Maaras told the court that Adi Azuan had been charged with three offences under the same provision at the Shah Alam Sessions Court yesterday.
The prosecution applied for today’s charge to be transferred to the Shah Alam Sessions Court to be heard together with the three existing charges, citing the same witnesses and investigation papers.
Irna Julieza also asked that the bail and additional conditions imposed by the Shah Alam court yesterday apply to the latest charge.
“For the court’s information, the Shah Alam Sessions Court allowed the accused to be released on RM50,000 bail with two sureties and ordered that his passport be surrendered to the court, while he was prohibited from interfering with any prosecution witnesses.
“The accused is also required to report to the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya once every three months,” she said.
The three charges filed in Shah Alam yesterday involve the alleged receipt of valuable things in the form of renovation costs totalling more than RM302,000 for three houses.
The Shah Alam Sessions Court has fixed Nov 25 for mention of the case for document submission.
Lawyer Wan Azwan Aiman Wan Fakhruddin, who represented Adi Azuan, confirmed the arrangement and did not object to the prosecution’s application.
Following agreement by both parties, the court allowed the transfer and ordered the latest charge to be heard together with the three other charges at the Shah Alam Sessions Court.
Adi Azuan was among five senior TH officers named in a previous Royal Commission of Inquiry report into the agency. - September 25, 2026
