Weather warning issued for several states

KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued an alert weather warning with continuous heavy rainfall forecast in several areas in Pahang and Johor, which are also suffering from floods.

MetMalaysia in a statement today said the areas in Pahang involved Kuantan, Bera, Pekan and Rompin, while in Johor, the areas that will be affected are Segamat, Mersing and Kota Tinggi.

The alert weather warning with heavy rain is also issued for Kelantan; Terengganu (Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Hulu Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu and Marang); and Johor involving Kluang, Kulai and Johor Bahru.

The similar situation is also expected to last until Saturday in Dungun, Kemaman, Terengganu; as well as Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Bentong, Temerloh and Maran, in Pahang. 

Meanwhile flood evacuees in Pahang as of 7am today was up to 24,257 people in 281 relief centres. In Kelantan, on the other hand, 4,829 people remain displaced by floods in 64 shelters this morning. – Bernama, January 7, 2021
