The monthly net income of e-hailing drivers is expected to rise by up to RM227 per month through a RM160 million package to be implemented starting next year.

For p-hailing delivery riders, net income is expected to increase by up to RM100 per month through the package, which is jointly funded by the government and Grab.

Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that the initiative aims to boost net income while improving the welfare of e-hailing and p-hailing workers.

“The government and Grab have agreed to jointly fund a RM160 million package aimed at increasing net income and improving the welfare of e-hailing and p-hailing workers, starting in 2027.

“This package covers increases in minimum income rates for e-hailing and p-hailing workers, assistance with vehicle maintenance and insurance costs, as well as SOCSO contributions,” he said while tabling the 2027 Budget in the Dewan Rakyat here today.

According to Anwar, approximately 600,000 people currently earn a living as e-hailing drivers and p-hailing delivery riders.

He added that the government would provide more comprehensive protection to safeguard the welfare of these gig workers.

“This means the median net income for e-hailing drivers is expected to rise by up to RM227 per month.

“Meanwhile, the income of p-hailing delivery riders will increase by up to RM100 per month,” he said.

In the meantime, Anwar noted that the Gig Consultative Council is currently in negotiations to determine minimum income rates, income formulas, and minimum social protection standards for gig workers.

He stated that decisions regarding these matters are expected to be finalised in early 2027. – October 9, 2026
