TEN people have been arrested to assist investigations into the death of a 21-year-old delivery rider following a music gig at a cafe in Kampung Jawa, Melaka with police now classifying the case as murder.

Melaka Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Halim Abas said the case was initially investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code before being reclassified under Section 302 following the victim’s death.

The victim died at 3.53pm on Oct 21, four days after sustaining a serious injury to the back of his head during the incident on Oct 17.

He was taken to Melaka Hospital for treatment and admitted to the intensive care unit but later succumbed to his injuries.

Halim said the 10 suspects, aged between 18 and 25, were detained to assist the investigation.

Police are also investigating the organisation of the event, which reportedly did not have a police permit or approval from the local authority.

“Police are still conducting further investigations into the organisation of the event,” he said in a statement.

The case attracted attention after details circulated on social media platform Threads.

Initial accounts suggested the victim had attempted a spinning-kick move during the music event before falling and sustaining the head injury. The circumstances leading to his death remain under investigation. - October 25, 2026
