TWO Chinese nationals have been arrested in Hong Kong in separate suspected drug smuggling cases involving flights from Penang within days, following the seizure of 2.2kg of suspected cocaine worth about RM700,000.
Hong Kong Customs said the latest suspect, a 39-year-old man, was detained at Hong Kong International Airport today after officers found the suspected drugs in his carry-on luggage.
The seizure was valued at HK$1.3 million (about RM700,000), according to the department.
The arrest followed the detention of another Chinese national, aged 25, last Thursday in a separate suspected drug smuggling case involving the same route.
Customs officers said the latest suspect arrived from Penang and was intercepted during a routine baggage inspection.
He was subsequently charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and was expected to appear before the West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts on Monday.
Hong Kong Customs said it would continue intensifying anti-drug operations through intelligence sharing, risk assessments and targeted inspections of passengers arriving from high-risk areas.
The department also cautioned travellers against carrying unknown items for others or accepting payment to transport controlled goods across borders, warning that they could face prosecution if found involved in drug trafficking. - October 26, 2026
