KUALA LUMPUR – As the possibility of a movement control order (MCO) looms closer, Malaysia once again reports Covid-19 cases in excess of 2,000.
Today, the Health Ministry announced 2,451 new Covid-19 infections, bringing the national tally to 133,559 cases.
Meanwhile, the amount of active cases that are infectious stands at 26,185.
Also, the Health Ministry recorded a further 1,401 recoveries today.
Selangor recorded the highest amount of cases again at 564 infections, Sabah (409), Negri Sembilan (351), Johor (304), Penang (273), Kuala Lumpur (200), Kedah (65), Kelantan (61), Sarawak (56), Malacca (50), Perak (42), Pahang (36), Putrajaya (17), Terengganu (16), Perlis (8), and Labuan (4).
Additionally, the Health Ministry said that five Covid-19 patients passed away today, bringing the nation’s virus death tally to 542.
All the deceased were Malaysian citizens.
Meanwhile, 177 cases are currently being treated in the intensive care unit while 82 patients require ventilators.
As for clusters, the Health Ministry detected five new ones today.
The Micro Cluster concerns the districts of Johor Bahru, Kulai, Pontian, and Kota Tinggi in Johor after a targeted screening of a factory. 97 positive infections were reported from this cluster.
Meanwhile, the Symphony Magazine Cluster in Timur Laut and Seberang Prai in Penang recorded 44 cases.
The Pasai Cluster, involving Sibu and Mukah in Sarawak recorded 38 Covid-19 infections.
The Teknologi Kesidang Cluster in Melaka Tengah, Malacca found 18 positive cases. – The Vibes, January 9, 2021
