MIRI – The population of over 200,000 people in the Sibu district have been warned that the Covid-19 virus is “everywhere on the streets now” as more new positive cases emerged this morning.
Sibu Municipal Council chairman Clarence Ting has taken to social media in a desperate effort to reach the people to warn them.
“I spoke to the health authorities just now,” he said. “There are new positive cases this morning spreading from the Pasai Siong cluster.
“The situation is bad. The virus is on the streets everywhere now. The number of Covid-19 infections will be much, much higher throughout this week,” he said in his Facebook postings.
Ting said the Covid-19 situation is going to get much worse before it can get better.
He said the public has no choice but to comply with every precautionary measure and standard operating procedure issued by the municipal council and health authorities if they do not want to be infected.
The council has put a stop to all public events, and the sanitisation and disinfection of public places have been stepped up.
Yesterday, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee declared both Sibu and Kuching districts as red zones.
The exponential rise in cases in Sibu started two days ago at a funeral ceremony in a longhouse called Rumah Langi, 60km from Sibu town.
The ceremony was attended by hundreds of natives from Rumah Langi and surrounding longhouses. A lockdown has been imposed in that locality. – The Vibes, January 11, 2021
