KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has announced a 14-day movement control order for Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Labuan, Selangor, Melaka, Johor and Sabah starting on Wednesday.

A conditional MCO will be imposed in Pahang, Perak, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan, he said in a special address today.

Meanwhile, Perlis and Sarawak will come under the recovery MCO.

These orders will be implemented for two weeks until January 26.

“Our healthcare system is at a breaking point,” he said on explaining the decisions today.

Among the restrictions for the MCO in Federal Territories and five states are bans on:

- Social activities that involve large gatherings. These include wedding ceremonies, seminars, meetings and group sports;

- Interstate and interdistrict travels are not allowed (for states under CMCO and RMCO, only interstate travel is prohibited);

- Dine-in at restaurants and eateries in affected states. Only takeaways or deliveries will be permitted;

- Only two people from the same household are allowed to leave the house at any one time. They will be limited to a 10km-radius to buy necessities;

- Only five essential economic sectors are allowed to operate, namely manufacturing, construction, services, trade and logistics, and agriculture and commodity;

- Workers in non-essential services to work from home;

- Candidates of major examinations are allowed to attend school under strict observation of SOPs; and,

- Only committee members of houses of worship are permitted to visit these premises, limited to a maximum of five people.

In a statement, Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs) will be announced in a press conference at 5pm tomorrow.

“At the same time, ministries, such as the Education, International Trade and Industry, and Works Ministries, will announce their own SOPs,” the statement read. – The Vibes, January 11, 2021
