KOTA KINABALU – The lockdown and proclamation of emergency rule will not stop Sabah's Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government from pressing ahead with its five-year development and economic recovery plan called Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ),

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said SMJ will be formulated so that development and progress can still be carried out despite the curbs.

“We had just formed the (new) Sabah government and passed the 100-day milestone, and the challenges are tough,” he said.

“But we will not stop and will continue to formulate SMJ to ensure Sabah can achieve the progress as intended,” said Hajiji at the launch of the SMJ Halatuju joint management open-day at the Sabah Administrative Complex here today.

The SMJ plan was mooted by Hajiji during the Sabah assembly sitting for the state’s 2021 budget on December 18 last year.

But the state economy now faces a second round of 14-day movement control order with possibility of an extension, and the implementation of the emergency rule set until August this year.

The formulation of the SMJ involves four steps, said Hajiji, adding that the government is now at the third step, which involves gathering feedback from stakeholders.

He said the final or fourth step will be the launch of the SMJ plan.

According to Hajiji, the first and second steps, involving the formulation of the SMJ’s direction and its framework have already been completed.  – The Vibes, January 12, 2021.
