BUTTERWORTH – The Apollo market in Jalan Raja Uda here has been ordered to shut for seven days starting Monday after violating the movement control order’s (MCO) standard operating procedures (SOPs).
It was decided after an enforcement operation undertaken by the police, health officers and Seberang Prai City Council personnel.
Seberang Prai Utara district police chief ACP Noorzainy Mohd Noor said this was an integrated operation to monitor SOP compliance while people were buying goods from the market.
“We found the market was overcrowded and it was not possible to adhere to the 1m social distancing rule.
“The organisers also failed to control the crowd entering the market. The queue stretched to the main road.”
