KUALA LUMPUR – The Defence Ministry (Mindef) received a contribution of RM180,000 from Pharmaniaga Bhd as well as RM20,000 in zakat wakalah (tithe) from the Federal Territories Zakat Collection Centre (PPZ) to assist with the schooling needs of its personnel’s children.

Mindef said in a statement that the contributions are for its back-to-school programme for the children of Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) members and Mindef civil servants nationwide.

“The Pharmaniaga contribution will benefit more than 1,500 MAF members’ children while the tithe from PPZ will be distributed to 100 civil servants for the purchase of school supplies,” it said.

Pharmaniaga group managing director Datuk Zulkarnain Md Eusope presented the contribution to Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob at Wisma Pertahanan here today.

It was then handed over to Mindef deputy secretary-general (management) Mastura Ahmad Mustafa.

The statement said the contributions are meant to help ease the burden of Mindef personnel in getting their children ready for the new school session.

“The back-to-school programme is an annual initiative by Mindef and MAF through the cooperation as well as involvement of corporate bodies and various other agencies.

“It is also part of the Corporate Social Responsibility of the company and relevant agencies as a sign of appreciation for the services and sacrifices of MAF personnel in defending the country’s sovereignty at all times,” it said. – Bernama, January 18, 2021
