MIRI – A 14-year old boy who went missing while playing near a river in Tatau district in northern Sarawak yesterday was found dead early this morning with missing limbs.

The boy, Affanirul Abdullah, of Kg Hilir, Kuala Tatau is believed to have been attacked by a crocodile.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department personnel from the Tatau fire station had retrieved the body of the boy from the river around 1am following an alert from villagers who found the body floating in the river.

“The boy went missing in Sg Kg Hilir yesterday afternoon.

“He was said to have fallen into the river while he was at the riverbank. He had been missing despite efforts by the search and rescue teams to find him.

“At 12.20am today, villagers called the Tatau Fire and Rescue station and said they had found his body floating in the river about 400m from the spot he went missing.

“Tatau rescue officers who went to retrieve the body found his left leg and right hand severed.

“Initial probe showed he was attacked by a crocodile,” said Sarawak Fire and Rescue in its updates today.

The body of the deceased has been handed over to the police. The village is located about 60km from Bintulu town. – The Vibes, January 19, 2021
