GEORGE TOWN – The Penang Regional Development Authority (Perda) has created a moratorium and exemptions to help people impacted by the implementation of the movement control order (MCO) 2.0.

Perda chairman Khaliq Mehtab Mohd Ishak said the support incentive would involve entrepreneurs and tenants of stalls, premises and land and Hardcore Poor Housing Projects (PPRT).

He said the support incentive would be for three months from January until March 2021 and be worth a total of RM561,100.

He said the move was taken to ease the burden of the people in Perda to ensure the continuity and sustainability of their businesses and daily lives.

“Among the incentives provided is the postponement and rescheduling of the Perda loan scheme involving 98 borrowers, with a financial implication of RM130,000,” he said in a statement today.

In addition, Perda would also give a targeted exemption on the payment of rentals of Perda business premises involving 368 premises with the financial implication valued at RM341,000.

Another incentive is the exemption of rentals for land belonging to Perda, involving 54 tenants worth RM73,000.

A total 55 tenants at the Tok Alang PPRT would also be exempted from paying their house rentals during the moratorium, worth RM17,100, Khaliq Mehtab added. – Bernama, January 22, 2021
