GEORGE TOWN – A 41-year-old man is lucky to survive a 6m fall while cycling near a small forested area in Bayan Lepas.

In the 10am incident, Lam Gar Haw’s fall resulted in a broken right leg and other minor injuries.

A spokesman for the state operations centre said a fire engine and a four-wheel drive vehicle from the Bayan Lepas fire and rescue station rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 10.06am.

“Firefighters face some difficulty getting to the victim due to the hilly and narrow route. So, we had to walk about 300m with emergency equipment to get there,” he told The Vibes.

He said the victim was taken out using a stretcher and sent him to Penang Hospital to receive treatment.

The rescue operation ended at 11am.

It is learnt that the victim, who hails from Teluk Kumbar, likes cycling as a hobby on weekends and often cycles in the area. – The Vibes, January 24, 2021
