MIRI – The Sarawak Health Department has issued an alert for recent attendees of weddings, funerals and family gatherings at longhouses and is feeling a bit ill, to go to the nearest clinic or hospital for Covid-19 screening.

State Health Department director Dr Chin Zin Hing said this is urgently required as events in longhouses have been identified as one of the major causes of Covid-19 cases in many districts throughout Sarawak.

“My department is calling for immediate response from the people as the situation is very urgent.

“Anyone who has travelled for such events over the past two weeks in longhouses, especially in Covid-19 red-zones, must go for immediate swab tests at the nearest clinic or hospital.”

He added that anyone who had received visitors coming to their homes for the past two weeks must also get immediately tested, if the visitors came from red zones.

“This involves the districts of Sibu, Miri, Sri Aman, Betong, Kanowit, Dalat, Beluru and Sebauh,” he said in a press statement here today.

Dr Chin said those who had travelled into and out of these areas for businesses in recent weeks must also go to the nearest clinic or hospital for Covid-19 tests if they are feeling unwell.

Even those with slight symptoms of sore throat, cough, fever, body ache and fatigue need to be tested if they had gone for any social events in these red zones in recent weeks, he said.
