MIRI – Sibu district in central Sarawak today logged another Covid-19 death, making it the state's seventh consecutive day of deaths, a stark contrast to when the pandemic started last year.

The state disaster management committee secretariat announced that the latest victim is a 79-year-old woman.

“She died in Sibu Hospital yesterday and test results showed that it was caused by Covid-19.

“We extend our condolences to her family members. With the latest fatality, the Covid-19 toll for Sarawak stands at 35.”

171 new infections were found statewide today, the secretariat said.

Sibu continues to record the highest daily cases with 77, followed by Miri (43), Dalat (25), Bintulu (12), Kuching (10), Betong (seven), and one each in Kapit and Lundu.

There are also 10 active clusters in the state.

Sibu Hospital today has 1,068 patients, while Miri Hospital has 301, followed by Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching (159), Bintulu Hospital (105), Kapit Hospital (41), Sarikei Hospital (14) and Limbang Hospital (four). – The Vibes, January 28, 2021
