MIRI – Sarawak has today confirmed another Covid-19 death in Sibu, and imposed a movement control order (MCO) starting Tuesday in the Kapit and Song districts.

The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat in a press statement said the death of a 73-year-old man in Sibu Hospital yesterday has today been confirmed to have been caused by the coronavirus.

“The latest fatality takes the state’s death toll to 38.”

Today, Sarawak recorded 135 new cases, with Sibu logging in the highest number of fresh infections at 47, followed by Miri (32), Bintulu (15) and Bau (11), while other districts recorded fewer than 10.

Sibu Hospital has 994 Covid-19 patients, while Miri Hospital has 293; Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching, 171; Bintulu Hospital, 121; Kapit Hospital, 93; Sarikei Hospital, 26; and Limbang Hospital, four.

The committee today also imposed the MCO in Kapit and Song, both districts in central Sarawak, from February 2 to 16, in view of a surge in cases in those areas.

Sibu is already under an extended MCO until February 14, while the other 37 districts in the state are under conditional MCO until February 14. – The Vibes, January 31, 2021
