MIRI – Landslides and floods have hit the Kapit district in central Sarawak, adding more woes for local folk already struggling with a surge of Covid-19 infections.

Floods inundated Kg Baru, Kg Muhibbah and housing estates along Simpang SK Ng Yong, while landslides have cut off traffic on the Mujang-Kapit road.

Sarawak's Disaster Relief Committee said the floods today measured about 0.7m.

Rescue personnel from the Kapit Fire and Rescue Department station and Civil Defence Force are on standby to facilitate the evacuation of affected residents, it added.

The water level at Sg Kapit has already breached the warning line.

Kapit is also under the movement control order until February 16, following a spike in Covid-19 cases over the past week.

There are 93 positive cases being treated in Kapit Hospital as of yesterday evening. – The Vibes, February 2, 2021
