MIRI – Sarawak today registered three new Covid-19 deaths, one each in the districts of Kuching, Sibu and Bintulu.
A new cluster has also emerged in the state, involving a longhouse.
While Sarawakians await the coronavirus vaccination drive to begin on February 27, infections continue to surge, with another 200 recorded statewide.
The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat said the latest fatalities bring Sarawak’s coronavirus death toll to 65.
The victims are a 63-year old man, who died at Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching, a 73-year-old man at Sibu Hospital, and a 74-year-old man at Bintulu Hospital.
“We extend our condolences to the families of the deceased, and we again advise the people of Sarawak to not let their guard down in this war against the pandemic.”
The new cluster is identified as Jan Yong, in Kapit district, taking the state’s active clusters to 22.
“It involves a longhouse community,” said the secretariat.
Of the new cases, Sibu district recorded 102, Kapit (53), Kuching (16), Bintulu (13), Dalat (7) and Miri (3), with several other districts logging one or two.
Sibu Hospital is treating 1,011 Covid-19 patients, Miri Hospital (318), Kapit Hospital (203), Sarawak General Hospital (156), Bintulu Hospital (156), Sarikei Hospital (78), Limbang Hospital (2), and Sri Aman and Lawas Hospitals (1 each).
“The war against Covid-19 in the state is far from over,” said the secretariat.
