SANDAKAN – Sabah Pakatan Harapan (PH) is tight-lipped over calls by the state PKR Youth to revise its existing cooperation with local-based parties.

Sabah DAP chairman Datuk Frankie Poon when contacted reserved his comments, saying the matter will be official only if the state PKR chief has made the call.

Earlier today, The Vibes had reported that Sabah PKR Youth chief Raymond Ahuar had proposed for the opposition alliance in the state to consider working with a new local partner.

Ahuar had claimed that the alliance’s existing partnership has derailed it from its goals and denied PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from becoming prime minister.

He did not name the local partner, but it is likely a reference to Warisan, which is led by Semporna MP Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

Sabah PH is currently in a pact with Warisan, and that alliance, also known as Warisan Plus, has been in limbo after September’s state election.

When contacted by The Vibes, state PH chief and PKR chairman Datuk Christina Liew was coy over her ally’s statement, saying she has nothing to say about the matter.

“No comment. Who is he? The Sabah leadership council is not involved in this.”

On the possibility of an early general election, Poon said Sabah DAP is ready and has been working hard to meet the interests of the people, adding that many anticipate a June election.

Amanah Youth communications director Khairuddin Daud when contacted by The Vibes was taken by surprise by Ahuar’s proposal, saying he cannot comment until the matter is brought to the state party leadership.

“I have to discuss with the state top leadership first and will revert once I have gotten their views.”

Sabah Amanah chairman could not be reached for comment.

Warisan secretary-general Datuk Loretto Padua Jr when contacted dismissed the Sabah PKR Youth chief’s claims, saying that it is not the time to talk about politics when the state is still reeling from new Covid-19 infections.

“I don’t think this is important now as the people at large are still in need of aid and food.” – The Vibes, February 22, 2021
