MIRI – The Sarawak government is allocating RM30 million to facilitate the delivery and storage of the Covid-19 vaccines in rural districts.
Chief Minister Datuk Abang Johari Openg today said the funds are needed to pay for the transportation arrangements of the vaccine and to set up the storage facilities.
“The Health Ministry has asked for help to deliver the vaccine into the rural areas. There are vast areas that need to be covered in order to vaccinate all the people,” he said.
“The RM30 million will be used to pay for the transportation and setting up storage facilities for the vaccine and for the vaccination centres.”
Abang Johari said this when visiting the Petra Jaya Stadium to kick-start the first phase of the immunisation programme in Sarawak.
In Sibu district – the worst-hit coronavirus red zone in the state – Assistant Minister for Housing and Public Health Dr Annuar Rapa’ee led frontliners in receiving the Covid-19 vaccine jabs this morning.
Dr Annuar – who is also assistant minister for education, science and technological research as well as assemblyman for Nangka – took his injection at Klinik Kesihatan Sibu.
“We are very relieved that finally, after one whole year of the pandemic, we can start the process of winning against the virus war through mass vaccination,” he said.
“We the rakyat thank the frontliners in the health and medical sectors who are doing all they can to ensure the smooth process of vaccination.”
