KUALA LUMPUR – Former deputy education minister Teo Nie Ching is mulling legal action against the deputy chairman of civil society group Reject Form 4 History Textbook.
In a Facebook post today, Teo said Datuk Yazid Othman’s comments during a discussion with Umno Youth chief Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki last night, in which she is implicated, are baseless.
“When I was in the Education Ministry, my officers and I in the deputy education minister’s office were never directly involved, and did not know anything, when it came to preparing the drafts and the work of printing textbooks, let alone instructing changes to the contents of the history textbook.
“It is clear that the source quoted by Datuk Yazid casts extreme doubt. All the accusations made by him are baseless, malicious and irrational.
“I will discuss with my lawyer about taking legal action to protect my reputation and credibility when I was carrying out my duties as deputy education minister.”
She said former education minister Maszlee Malik has already given a clarification on how textbooks are prepared and published.
During the discussion, which was carried on Facebook, Yazid implied that there were hidden hands instructing changes to the contents of the Form 4 history textbook.
He was quoted by news portal Malaysiakini as saying he spoke to sources in the ministry about Teo’s purported interference.
“The insider informed us that they received a phone call from a female Pakatan Harapan deputy education minister, who is a Chinese woman, telling us to change the contents of the history textbook with new information.” – The Vibes, February 27, 2021
