KUALA LUMPUR – Some of Malaysia’s most prominent female political leaders will attend the inaugural launch of the Council of Women Political Leaders (Comwel) at 2pm tomorrow in Bandar Baru Klang.
The launch of the council, in conjunction with International Women’s Day that also falls tomorrow, will be officiated by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Seri Azhar Azizan Harun.
Comwel, on Facebook today, said the council was set up to champion women’s rights and to stand as a vehicle to move legislation, such as the sexual harassment act, cyber-bullying act and others.
“It will comprise women politicians without taking into account their political background.
“Comwel will act as a think-tank and implementer while planning activities and actions.
“It will also prepare a wider space for women in Malaysia to expand, especially in terms of leadership and women representation at the decision-making level,” it said.

Many high-profile guests are expected to make an appearance, including Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin and Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.
The two iron ladies will also take part in a roundtable discussion.
Other prominent figures attending the launch are Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon, National Unity Minister Datuk Halimad Mohamed Sadique, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Deputy Minister Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, Women, Family and Community Development Deputy Minister Datuk Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff, Housing and Local Government Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Abd Mutalib and former women, family and community development minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim.
Delegates and representatives from various embassies, NGOs and women politicians at the state and federal level have also been invited to the launch. – The Vibes, March 7, 2021
