Editors' Note: Earlier we reported that Tuaran MP and Upko president Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau was rumoured to be crossing over to Bersatu. Madius has come on record to clarify that he never intended to do so. The entire story has been flagged and taken down.

KOTA KINABALU – Upko president Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau rubbished rumours he may be crossing over to support Perikatan Nasional (PN).

The Tuaran MP held a livestream on Facebook in response to an earlier report by The Vibes over a meeting he allegedly will have with Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin over his plans to switch allegiance.

“I was informed by my fellow Upko colleagues of a report published by the portal The Vibes, written by an irresponsible journalist from Sabah, which says that I am one of the MPs who will be crossing over to support PN.

“This is fake news by certain parties aimed to destabilise opposition leaders. This is a desperate move by irresponsible parties.

“I would like to deny that I will join PN,” he added.

Madius urged the parties coming up with fake news to stop doing so.

“I will not hesitate to take legal action against these people if these rumours and slander continues,” he said, adding that he hoped his clarification would clear the air.

Earlier, The Vibes reported that Madius and PKR’s Putatan MP Awang Hussaini Sahari are rumoured to be planning a meeting with Hamzah, who is visiting Sabah. – The Vibes, March 8, 2021
