Datuk Seri in RM300,000 bribery case remanded 6 days

SHAH ALAM – Two individuals, including a businessman with the Datuk Seri title, have been remanded for six days to facilitate investigations into a RM300,000 bribery case in connection with the detention of 22 Chinese nationals at an immigration depot.

Magistrate Fatina Amyra Abdul Jalil issued the remand order, effective today until Monday, following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

One of the suspects is a 41-year-old woman, who acted as an agent for foreign workers and is believed to have acted as a middleman.

An MACC source said the woman was arrested about 1am today, while the 44-year-old Datuk Seri was arrested around 8pm yesterday.

Both were detained at the Selangor MACC office.

The source also said the male suspect claimed to be able to help solve the case of the detention of the 22 Chinese nationals, who were being held over an online gambling syndicate.

The probe is being conducted under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009. – Bernama, March 10, 2021
