MIRI – A woman who lived in a remote riverine village in Sarawak was found drowned today, with crocodile bite marks on the body.

The remains of Runyan Tempan, 38, from the Rumah Mathias longhouse, were discovered in Sg Peking in Bakong district about 150km inland from here about 11am.

The state Fire and Rescue Department said she was a victim of a crocodile attack.

Despite the wounds, it said, Runyan’s body, found floating some 100m from the longhouse, was intact.

The department said the victim went missing after going to the river jetty with her young son to bathe yesterday afternoon.

Villagers alerted fire officials when they saw a crocodile dragging her into the water.

A search party was mounted yesterday to locate Runyan.

The body has been handed over to police. – The Vibes, April 3, 2021
