KUALA LUMPUR – Local celebrity Neelofa has been fined RM20,000 without the possibility of a discount, while her husband, preacher Muhammad Haris Mohd Ismail, received a RM10,000 compound for violating conditional movement control order standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Police issued the compounds after the couple travelled out of state to Langkawi for their wedding recently.

Twenty of Neelofa’s family members were also fined RM1,500 each, for a total of RM30,000.

Dang Wangi police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah in a statement said Neelofa – full name Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor – was fined RM20,000 for committing two offences.

One is for violating SOPs at her wedding ceremony at a hotel here, and the other is for travelling out of state without approval, he added.

She will not be able to appeal for a discount.

Haris, better known as PU Riz, was fined for travelling out of state without approval.

Neelofa’s family members who were issued compounds were found to have not complied with the physical distancing rule of at least 1m during her akad nikah ceremony here.

The celebrity in a statement today said: “I accept (the compound) with an open heart, and (will) make this a lesson to use interstate travel permits (only) for purposes set by the authorities.”

The couple’s wedding was held on March 27 here. A few days later, they were reportedly in Langkawi for business purposes.

However, pictures of the two strolling at the island’s tourist spots circulated on social media, inviting public backlash. – The Vibes, April 27, 2021
