SEREMBAN – Celebrity Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor and husband Muhammad Haris Mohd Ismail have been given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) by the magistrates’ court here over their alleged breach of standard operating procedures (SOPs) in Nilai last May.
The court will be issuing the DNAA on December 21, reported Bernama.
Magistrate Mohd Firdaus Saleh made the ruling after deputy public prosecutor Nor Azizah Aling informed the court that the Attorney-General’s Chambers had considered the representation submitted by the two accused regarding the case.
Nor Azizah requested that the cases be given a DNAA first to enable other actions to be taken against the couple.
Meanwhile, lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafie Abdullah representing the couple said when met by reporters that the prosecution had withdrawn all the charges against Haris and Noor Neelofa.
“A compound process will take place either today or tomorrow. We will be back on December 21 so that the DNAA can be converted to DNA (discharged and acquitted).
“We're quite happy. Although these charges can be fought, it will drag on. As Noor Neelofa is pregnant, it is not suitable for us to continue this case,” he added.
Also representing the couple are lawyers Haresh Mahadevan and Ramzani Idris.
The couple was in trouble for allegedly breaching the conditional movement control order (CMCO) SOPs at a carpet shop in Nilai, in May this year.
On October 20, Noor Neelofa and Haris sent representation to the Attorney-General’s Chambers over the charges.
On May 20, Noor Neelofa and her husband pleaded not guilty to violating Regulation 19 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within Infected Local Area) (Conditional Movement Control) (No.4) (Amendment) (No.12) Regulations 2021 that carries a fine not exceeding RM50,000 or imprisonment for up to six months, or both, if found guilty.
Haris, 26, was charged with two counts of failing to comply with CMCO SOPs, that is, failing to wear a face mask and scanning the MySejahtera app/registering his name in the provided book at Kedai Naeem Carpet Sdn Bhd, Kawasan Perindustrian Nilai 3, Nilai, at 4pm on May 2.
Noor Neelofa, 32, was charged with failing to scan the MySejahtera app/writing her name in the registration book to check in at the same place and time.
Separately in late April, Noor Neelofa was fined RM20,000 without the possibility of a discount, while Haris received a RM10,000 compound for violating CMCO SOPs.
Police issued the compounds after the couple travelled out of state to Langkawi for their wedding.
20 of Noor Neelofa’s family members were also fined RM1,500 each, for a total of RM30,000.
Noor Neelofa was fined RM20,000 for committing two offences, one for violating SOPs at her wedding ceremony at a hotel, and the other for travelling out of the state without approval, police said.
Haris was fined for travelling out of the state without approval.
Noor Neelofa’s family members who were issued compounds were found to have not complied with physical distancing of at least 1m during her akad nikah ceremony. – The Vibes, December 1, 2021
