KOTA KINABALU – Putrajaya will optimise resources and assets to assist Sabah in containing the new wave of Covid-19 cases, said state Assistant Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun. 

He said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has expressed a commitment to end the pandemic in the state.

“The prime minister has given his word that the federal government through the Health Ministry will fully assist Sabah in ending the Covid-19 menace. He said that via a video conference with the National Security Council, which I was also present.”

A total of 291 new cases and two deaths have been recorded in Sabah today.

This brings a total of 4,621 cases and 35 deaths in the state alone.

The state will be under the conditional movement control order for 14 days beginning midnight until October 26.   

Felda Umas in Tawau joined a list of areas under targeted enhanced MCO. Other areas are Kg Bangau-Bangau Hujung, Kg Bangau-Bangau Darat, Kg Hallo, Kg Ubian, Kg Panji, Kg Air, Kg Selamat, Kg Simunul, Kg Pinggir Bakau in Semporna and Kg Pengkalan in Kunak. 

On the distribution of food assistance, Masidi who is also Assistant Finance Minister II said 9,409 food baskets have been distributed to selected districts. 

They are Lahad Datu (2,183), Semporna (3,673), Kunak (1,053), Tawau (2,000) and Sandakan (500). 

“Only heads of households in Temco areas and in self-isolation are being given food baskets,” he said. – The Vibes, October 12, 2020
