KUALA LUMPUR – The second round of AstraZeneca opt-in registration will open at 12pm this Sunday, coordinating minister for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Khairy Jamaluddin tweeted today.
Unlike the first opt-in registration on May 2, which was open on a first-come, first-served basis to those in Selangor and KL, the registration will only be open to residents of Klang Valley, Penang, Johor, Kuching and Miri who are above the age of 60.

All 268,600 vaccination slots under the government’s first voluntary AstraZeneca registration programme were snapped up, less than four hours after bookings were opened on May 2.
This came after the science, technology and innovation minister had promised that said doses will be made available on a voluntary basis in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur to address the people’s concerns and fears about the vaccine, apart from not wanting to disrupt the ongoing immunisation programme.
On May 3, Khairy said a total of 1.1 million doses of the AstraZeneca jabs are expected to arrive via the Covax facility later this month, followed by 610,000 doses from AstraZeneca itself in June, 410,000 in July, as well as 1.2 million in August and September.
The government’s decision to offer the AstraZeneca vaccine as an optional vaccine has seen more people re-registering for the Covid-19 immunisation programme, he added.
“From the 8,000 people who pulled out from AstraZeneca when it was part of the national programme, 6,400 have now re-registered.
“After we announced the opt-in programme, about 80% of the people who cancelled their registration on MySejahtera re-registered for their vaccination appointment. This data shows that there was vaccine hesitancy.”
Studies show that the AstraZeneca vaccine has a 0.0004% probability of forming blood clots in recipients, or in one out of every 250,000 individuals. – The Vibes, May 21, 2021
