KUALA LUMPUR – The Mah Meri Orang Asli in Bagan Lalang are staying put for at least another month as Sg Pelek assemblyman Ronnie Liu tries to help resolve the matter.
“Based on our understanding, it (the extension) is until we find a solution. I will try to find a solution within a month from now,” he told The Vibes.
Liu added that Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari gave his assurance that force would not be used.
“I am doing some fact finding to provide details to the necessary parties for discussion probably next week. Some of the Orang Asli there happen to be occupying state land, not the land belonging to Permodalan Negeri Selangor Bhd.
“The boundaries are unclear. In fact, there are some chalets on state land.”
Liu said the fact-finding mission must be done before negotiations begin.
He also pointed to a surau at the entrance of Kg Orang Asli Bagan Lalang and that it was built by nearby residents.
“This (surau) is another complication we have to look into. I will also involve Sepang MP Mohamed Hanipa Maidin. But right now, the local council is leading the team,” said Liu.
On April 20, Orang Asli at the village were visited by personnel from police and the local land office who handed out eviction notices.
These notices said the Orang Asli broke laws by building structures on government land, and that they have 30 days to empty the land and dismantle structures.
However, the Orang Asli were given a reprieve after Liu intervened and sought the CEO of state-linked PNSB to temporarily halt the enforcement of the eviction notice.
PNSB added that it had received a letter from the village leader of nearby Kg Orang Asli Bukit Bangkong for an extension of time to clear out Kg Orang Asli Bagan Lalang. – The Vibes, May 21, 2021
